you are thinking of some linear time
where it would be impossible for anyone
to love more than one person...ever.

and perhaps that's true, to an extent.

but only if you see that you can only
conjure up that 'love' when you think
about it. and secondly, not being able
to have to (respective) thoughts in your
head at one time, can you just think/love
one person.

i believe you have contradicted yourself here (maybe not here, but in things we have talked about and what you typed above) because you claim that the only time that you love someone is when you think about it, not all of the time. you also said that you can only have one thought in your mind at one time. therefore, there is a limited supply of love, and you can only love one person.

first of all, there are various forms of love (let's not get dirty here folks). in the english language, it is all classified as love. patriotic love, passionate love, platonic love, love for family, agape, etc.

secondly. love is intuitive. we can't use discursion to figure out love. (i mean sentimental movies do this as do cheap romance novels - discuss the impossibilities of defining love.) love is experienced. once you start thinking about the love you just felt over [x], that love is now gone and all you have left is the thought of that love.

so in answering that question. love IS more than an impulse to protect.

i thought a bit about communication. every word that we learn, is learned in a different way from everyone else. so thereby, we all have different connotations associated with words. so we really have no way of knowing what we are saying is TRULY understood by the other party.
